Teaser

Book: I am reading The Bride Stripped Bare by Nikki Gemmell. I’m up to page 288 out of 373 and I’m enjoying it. It’s very simply written so very easy to follow. My teaser is from page 328.

You stop, can’t go on, the tips of your fingers press your mouth; you don’t know why you flew to Seville any more, why you didn’t just walk from the bullring, from his life. This is wrong, this is wrong.

Teaser

Book: I am reading Breakfast at Tiffany’s and three stories by Truman Capote which is made up of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, House of Flowers, A Diamond Guitar, and A Christmas Memory. I’m currently up to page 74 of 100 for Breakfast at Tiffany’s. My spoiler is from page 85.

The male detective seemed embarrassed: by Madame Spanella and by the situation; but a harsh enjoyment tensed the face of his companion – she plumped a hand on Holly’s shoulder and, in a surprising baby-child voice, said: ‘Come along, sister. You’re going places.’ Whereupon Holly coolly told her: ‘Get them cotton-pickin’ hands off of me, you dreary, drivelling old bull-dyke.’

Teaser

Book: I am finally reading something new after 4 months, so finally have a new teaser! Currently reading All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. I’ve almost finished (I’m up to page 166/200), and so far i’ve loved this book. It has made me laugh, and also has almost brought me to tears. My teaser is from page 186.

It is this attitude that makes Tjaden gulp down his pea-and-ham soup as fast as he can when an enemy attack has been reported, because he doesn’t know whether he will still be alive in an hour’s time. We have had long discussions on whether this is the right thing to do or not.

Teaser

Book: I know it’s been forever since I have updated, and unfortunately i’m still going on ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ by Charles Dickens, almost 2 months later. I’ve only managed to read another 100 pages since my last teaser, and am now up to page 164. My teaser is from page 248.

Not before dark night did the men and women come back to the children, wailing and breadless. Then, the miserable bakers’ shops were beset by long files of them, patiently waiting to buy bad bread; and while they waited with stomachs faint and empty, they beguiled the time by embracing one another on the triumphs of the day, and achieving them again in gossip.

Teaser

Book: So, as usual, i’m still going on the same book as last Teaser Tuesday – A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. I haven’t got much further, I was up to page 22 last time and am now up to page 71. My teaser is from page 151.

Sydney was none the livelier and none the soberer for so much application. It had taken a deal of extra wet towelling to pull him through the night; a correspondingly extra quantity of wine had preceded the towelling; and he was in a very damaged condition, as he now pulled his turban off and threw it into the basin in which he had steeped it at intervals for the last six hours.

Teaser

Book: FINALLY i’m up to a new book, and therefore a new teaser! I’ve just started A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. This is the first Dickens book i’ve read, and i’m struggling to get into the way it’s written but slowly getting there! I am up to page 22, and my teaser is from page 127.

The half-dozen who were peering at the chain were still among the wheels, like sheep; the wheels turned so suddenly that they were lucky to save their skins and bones; they had very little else to save, or they might not have been so fortunate.

Teaser

Book: I am still going with A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. I’m definitely enjoying it, just finding it hard to find time to read, and also the chapters are really long which I find always means I take longer to read books! I’m up to page 262, and my teaser is from page 315.

Every spring there are dandelions; they always remind me of the spring term of 1960 – the burgeoning of that old decade that seemed so new to Owen Meany and me. that was the spring when the Search Committee found a new headmaster. That was the decade that would defeat us.

Teaser

Book: I have just started (on page 6) A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. My teaser is from page 52.

I would never describe my cousins as bullies; they were good-natured, rambunctious roughnecks and daredevils who genuinely wanted me to have fun – but fun in the north country was not what I was used to in my life with the women at 80 Front Street, Gravesend. I did not wrestle with my grandmother or box with Lydia, not even when she had both her legs.

Teaser

Book: I’m taking forever to read A Fine Balance! Still loving it, but I feel like I haven’t had enough time lately to enjoy reading properly. I’m travelling for work soon so will read lots on the plane! I’m up to page 321, and my teaser is from page 417.

Then, abruptly, the sound of his voice became the faraway echo of another – a voice that had once named the chessmen thus, for him, in the college hostel. He stopped, unable to proceed with explaining the game.

Book: I’ve just started A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry, which was given to me for my birthday by my boss as it’s her favourite book ever. I’m currently up to page 58, and my teaser is from page 123.

But the stories kept multiplying: someone had been knifed in the bazaar in town; a sadhu hacked to death at the bus station; a settlement razed to the ground. The tension spread through the entire district.
